From 14th to 17th July 2019, the first ZJE (Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute) Outstanding Undergraduate Students’ Summer Camp was successfully held.
During this period, campers deeply felt the cross-research direction, strong scientific research team and advanced experimental facilities of ZJE through listening, observation and discussion.
On 15th July, ZJE faculty introduced their research areas and research team to campers, they also patiently answered all the students' questions. After students had a basic understanding of faculty’s research field, they expressed more interest in ZJE's double-doctoral program.
On 16th July, the campers listened to two wonderful speeches by Prof. Luo Jianhong, Vice President of Zhejiang University and Prof. Jin Tao of Zhejiang University. Professor Luo and Professor Jin introduced the students to cutting-edge scientific knowledge, professional development prospects and career design, and planning in the field of biomedicine with the theme of "the evolution of human brain and intelligence" and "university and academic planning" respectively.
On the afternoon of 16th, campers visited the ZJE scientific research laboratory, and then came to the faculty's office to have further discussions, so as to deepen their mutual understanding.
The last part of the camp was student presentations. The campers fully displayed their confidence through 10-minute self-presentation and 10-minute question-and-answer. From the design of basic scientific experiment topics to the experimental technical discussion, they talked freely, and some students defended in English throughout the whole process, winning the unanimous recognition and appreciation of the instructors present.
Finally, the summer camp evaluated the first prize, second prize and excellence award, and awarded the certificate of honor.
The three-day summer camp demonstrated the unique charm of Chinese and Western culture, superior campus atmosphere and powerful teaching staff of ZJE for outstanding university students from all over the country. In this summer camp, the students showed their passion for biomedicine with enthusiasm and youthful vigor.
