Overview

Our  4 Year Dual award PhD in Integrative Biomedical Sciences programme will  equip students with the distinct skills required to bridge the  knowledge gap between the design, execution and interpretation of  fundamental research and the challenges of translating this knowledge in  humans. The programme focuses on training students to align  cutting-edge experimental animal modelling, cellular, regenerative,  computational, genetic technologies and analytical tools with  comprehensive knowledge of the translational environment.

By  'Training to Translate', this programme draws on unique research  strengths in biomedical sciences from The University of Edinburgh and  Zhejiang University. As evidenced by our recent award of the 2018  Education Institutional Partnership of the Year at the British Business  Awards, we have established an international research institute that  builds on the existing strengths of our institutions and aims to foster  further collaboration in teaching and research.

Upon  successful completion of the programme, you will have the opportunity  to be awarded a PhD in Integrative Biomedical Sciences from both the  University of Edinburgh and Zhejiang University.

ZJU-UoE Institute

The  ZJU-UoE Institute (ZJE) is located on the International Campus of  Zhejiang University in Haining, China. This programme is taught in  English by staff from Zhejiang University, the University of Edinburgh  and the ZJU-UoE Institute.

Study in China

This  programme will be taught in English by staff from Zhejiang University,  the University of Edinburgh and the Zhejiang University-University of  Edinburgh Institute (ZJU-UoE Institute). They will be based entirely in  Haining, China.

Zhejiang University International Campus Scholarship (ZJE Hai Scholarship)

This scholarship is established by International Campus, Zhejiang University, and it is only open to Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute( ZJE) doctoral programme applicant which is in International Campus, ZJU.

1. Introduction to Scholarship

To attract outstanding international students to pursue doctoral programs at ZJE ,with   the goal to cultivate top-notch innovative talents in the field of   medicine with the concept of holistic training, global immersion, and   full chain practice. International Campus offers the International Student Scholarship. The selection targets international students who have not received Chinese Government scholarship or any other scholarships.

2. Coverage of the Scholarship

--Tuition waiver;

--Free  accommodation on campus;

--Stipend: 3000 RMB/month, 10 months per year.

--Comprehensive medical insurance (please refer to the relevant chapters in the application guide for details)

3. Application Duration and Process

The applicant shall truthfully fill in Zhejiang University International Campus Scholarship (ZJE Hai Scholarship) form (ZJE scholarship form.pdf), and send it to staff Rachel Zhu (email   address: zhuzhu@intl.zju.edu.cn , name the email subject as follows:   application number+passport name, and upload this application form to   the Zhejiang University International Student Application System (Link) at the same time.

Application deadline: May 30, 2025

Note: Applicants must send the email   before the deadline and upload it to the Zhejiang University   International Student Application System to complete the online   application, and provide all required materials as required.

3. Scholarship period

The scholarship period is 4 years for doctoral students, subject to the specific study time specified in the admission letter.

*Note: The scholarship stipend will   be regularly distributed to scholarship students after they register  on  campus. New students who register before the 15th of the month   (including the 15th) will receive a full month stipend; Those who register after the 15th will receive a half-month stipend. For those who take a leave of absence, drop out, or return to their home country after graduation, the stipend will be suspended from next month. Stipend during the school's designated holidays will be paid as usual; Scholarship students who are unable to receive their stipend on time due to their leave from school during their vacation can receive it upon   returning to school. Scholarship recipients who fail to register for   school on time without taking leave, leave school for non-health reasons, or skip classes for more than two weeks will have their monthly stipend suspended.
