Title:  Signal regulation of autophagosome formation

Speaker: Prof. Wei Liu

Autophagy is a cellular self-digestion pathway in which portions of the cytoplasm including protein aggregates and damaged organelles are encapsulated by double-membraned autophagosomes and delivered to lysosomes for degradation. Cells up-regulate autophagy to cope with stress conditions and maintain homeostasis. Accumulating evidence has suggested a crucial role of autophagy in physiological processes and the link between deficient autophagy and diseases. Nevertheless, how cells sense the intracellular and extracellular cues to turn on and control the autophagy process is not entirely clear yet. In this talk, Professor Liu will report their recent results about autophagy regulation by focusing on the early stage of autophagy including its initiation and autophagosome formation.
