On the afternoon of 18 April 2024, the 111th Biomed-X Seminar of the Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute was successfully held in A203 of the Research Building. Invited by Professor Yuan Yuan, Professor Shan Wang from the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine gave a seminar on "Heterogeneity of Epithelial Stem Cells in Inflammatory Pulmonary Disorders".
Professor Wang is a researcher of the Hundred Talents Programme of Zhejiang University and a doctoral supervisor. He has been working on the concepts and mechanisms of endogenous tissue repair and the heterogeneity of Epithelial Stem Cells in Inflammatory Pulmonary Disorders. The seminar demonstrates the latest results of a systematic study of three different inflammatory pulmonary disorders that are chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and cystic fibrosis (CF), by scRNA-seq and pulmonary epithelial stem cell cloning technologies. The underlying causes of irreversible pathological changes in these diseases were revealed.
The seminar featured active interaction between students and faculty, fully demonstrating free academic discussion and critical thinking about research issues.
The seminar not only brought cutting-edge academic results to the teachers and students at the institute but also stimulated enthusiasm for scientific exploration.
