On the afternoon of 23rd April 2024, the 112th Biomed-X Seminar of the Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute was successfully held in A203 of the Research Building. Invited by Professor Chaochen Wang, Professor Cai from Westlake University gave a seminar on " An in vitro tissue avatar to model the intricacy of mammary gland ".
Prof. Cai delved into the role of mammary stem cells in the morphological and functional integrity of the mammary gland during puberty, pregnancy, and lactation, as well as the role of breast cancer stem cells in cancer initiation, evolution, drug resistance, relapse, and metastasis. He provided a detailed interpretation of the crucial role of breastcancer stem cells in the cancer process.
The seminar featured active interaction between students and faculty, fully demonstrating free academic discussion and critical thinking about research issues. It brought cutting-edge academic results to the institute's teachers and students and stimulated enthusiasm for scientific exploration.
