[Biomed-X Seminar No. 121] Professor Ping Wang from Tongji University shared Amino acid sensing mechanism and tumour therapy

2024-12-06

On the afternoon of 2nd December 2024, the Biomed-X Seminar No. 121 of Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute was successfully held at A203, ZJE Building. Invited by researcher Jian Liu, Professor Ping Wang, Vice Dean of Tongji University School of Medicine, gave an academic report on “Amino acid sensing mechanisms and tumour therapy”.

Professor Wang has long been committed to basic and translational research on the tumour microenvironment. He and his team have identified a novel valine-specific sensor, the human deacetylase HDAC6, and revealed the specific mechanism by which valine restriction leads to nuclear translocation of HDAC6, which in turn enhances TET2 activity and induces DNA damage. Professor Wang's team has found the molecular mechanism of attacking tumour cells through continuous scientific research, with a view to opening up new avenues for tumour diagnosis and treatment.

During the event, faculty and students actively engaged in discussions, demonstrating their open-minded approach to academic exploration and critical thinking about research questions. Professor Wang patiently and thoroughly answered every question, deepening the understanding and insights of participants in this field.

As the 121th session of the Biomed-X Seminar series, this report underscores the institute's commitment to fostering high-level academic exchanges through its academic brand building efforts. The institute will continue to provide a platform for faculty and students to engage in cutting-edge scientific discussions.
