On the afternoon of January 17, 2026, the 16th Annual Academic Conference of School of Basic Medical Sciences, Zhejiang University —— the 2025 Annual Academic Conference of Zhejiang University - University of Edinburgh Institute —— was successfully held and concluded at Yuanzheng Qizhen Hotel, Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University. Experts and scholars in the biomedical field from ZJE, Westlake University, Liangzhu Laboratory, the School of Basic Medical Sciences of Zhejiang University, the International School of Medical of Zhejiang University and other institutions gathered together. They shared their latest research findings focusing on cutting-edge disciplinary directions, conducted in-depth discussions on interdisciplinary innovation pathways, and injected intellectual vitality into the development of the biomedical field.

Prof. KE Yuehai, Dean of ZJE, delivered the opening speech. He noted that with the theme “BioMed + X Future”, the conference built a platform for academic exchange and achievement sharing, driving frontier innovation in biomedicine. The presentation session was co-chaired by Prof. LIU Jian, Prof. Martin Kosar; Prof. CHEN Yishan; and Prof. LIU Heng-Jia. Eight scholars delivered outstanding lectures covering cancer biology, computational medicine, immune regulation, tissue repair, embryonic development, evolutionary genetics, precision oncology and other frontier fields.

Prof. XIE Qi analyzed the crosstalk between cancer epitranscriptome and genome, offering new molecular insights into cancer etiology. Prof. XIONG Xushen focused on decoding human polygenic diseases via deep learning and statistical genetics, demonstrating innovative AI applications in complex diseases. Prof. SU Wenjing discussed the immunosuppressive programming of tertiary lymphoid structures in hepatocellular carcinoma, providing a theoretical basis for optimizing liver cancer immunotherapy. Prof. CHEN Yishan shared the roles of cellular plasticity and matrix remodeling in cartilage injury repair. Prof. XU Pengfei elaborated on morphogen functions in vertebrate embryogenesis and their regulatory roles in developmental patterning. Prof. HUA Yu reported the evolutionary persistence and divergence of the tdk killer meiotic drive gene family. Prof. ZHEN Yuanli focused on precision oncology of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, introducing its pathogenesis and targeted therapy research. Prof. Martin Kosar explored the core role of nuclear pore complexes in cellular signal regulation.

During the presentations, the audience listened attentively and actively raised questions in interactive sessions. Speakers responded patiently, creating a vibrant academic atmosphere.

This conference provided a high-level platform for academic exchange and achievement sharing. It effectively strengthened collaboration between ZJE and other institutions, promoted interdisciplinary integration, and stimulated vitality for scientific innovation.
