2025 Basic Medical Sciences Youth Scholars Symposium & The Fifth Zijuan Youth Scholars Forum Successfully Held

From November 12 to 13, The 2025 Basic Medical Sciences Youth Scholars Symposium& The Fifth Zijuan Youth Scholars Forum were successfully held in the multifunctional hall of International Campus, ZJU. The event brought together experts, scholars, and administrative staff from six units across five universities, including Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing Medical University, and Tongji University. The conference was hosted by the Zhejiang University School of Basic Medical Sciences and co-organized by the ZJE Institute.

At the opening ceremony, LI Min, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of the International Campus, Zhejiang University, delivered a speech. She extended a warm welcome to all participants, introduced the International Campus Haining, reviewed the history of the Young Scholars Symposium and Zijing Forum, and wished the conference a complete success.

In the institutional presentation session, Prof. KE Yuehai, Dean of ZJE, Prof. XU Haoxin, Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Zhejiang University, and other institutional leaders including Prof. TONG Xuemei, Prof. LV Mingfang, Prof. WANG Juejin and Prof. WANG Ping delivered keynote speeches. They focused on the comprehensive reform and development of basic medical sciences during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, international approaches to training interdisciplinary basic medical talents, and the cultivation of top-tier basic disciplines talents, and outlined plans for high-quality development in the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

The discussion session was chaired by Lou Jianqing, Secretary of the General Party Branch and Vice Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Zhejiang University. Participants exchanged innovative practices and reflections on talent cultivation, recruitment and evaluation reform, discipline development and team building, training of top basic medical talents, and integration of ideological and political education into basic medical courses.

At the Young Scholars Symposium on November 13, Xu Haoxin, Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Zhejiang University, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer. He welcomed all guests and expressed the hope that the symposium would serve as a stage for young scholars to show their talents and a bond for cooperation. He encouraged young scholars to forge ahead in basic medical research with perseverance and pioneering spirit.

Subsequently, 18 speakers from the five universities delivered interdisciplinary in-depth talks on cutting-edge fields including embryonic development, epigenetic regulation, virus and vaccine development, tumor immunotherapy and single-cell omics, sharing their latest research findings. Young ZJE scholars Liu Jian, Liu Hengjia and Zhang Qianting actively participated and gave excellent presentations, demonstrating interdisciplinary innovation and ZJE’s young academic vitality.

As the co-organizer, ZJE played an integral role in both the event coordination and academic exchanges, actively advancing high-quality collaboration in the field of basic medicine and the joint cultivation of young talent in the Yangtze River Delta region. This conference not only provided an effective platform for academic exchange and cooperation among young scholars in basic medicine in China but also injected fresh momentum into regional medical innovation and collaborative disciplinary development.
