On the afternoon of May 13, 2026, the 151th session of the Biomed-X Research Seminar of ZJE was successfully held in Room 2A-203, ZJE Building. At the invitation of Dr. Zhuolong Zhou, Prof.Francis Ka-Ming Chan,Qiushi Chair Professor of the Zhejiang University School of Basic Medical Sciences, delivered an academic report entitled “How TNF Regulates Inflammation in Host Defense and Tissue Homeostasis”.

As a world-renowned scholar in the fields of cell death and immunology, Prof. Chan systematically elaborated on the mechanisms by which Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) regulates inflammatory responses in host defense and tissue homeostasis, drawing on his extensive research experience. The report focused on two major cutting-edge research advances: first, the immune mechanisms of cell death in viral infections and the role of protein kinase RIPK3 in the regulation of inflammatory signaling; second, the application of spatial omics to reveal the spatial heterogeneity of lymphoid aggregates in human immune diseases. These findings provide an important theoretical foundation for understanding the molecular regulatory networks of inflammation and exploring novel therapeutic targets for immune-related diseases.

During the event, teachers and students engaged in active interactions, conducting in-depth discussions on topics such as the crosstalk regulation between cell death and inflammatory signals, the physiological and pathological significance of RIPK3, and the application prospects of spatial omics in immune disease research, fully demonstrating the spirit of free academic exploration and critical scientific thinking. Prof. Chan answered every question patiently and meticulously. His rigorous scientific attitude and cutting-edge research achievements greatly benefited all the attendees.

This is the 151st session of the Biomed-X Seminar series. ZJE will continue to build this academic brand and provide a high-level academic exchange platform for teachers and students.
