On October 22, 2026, the 156th session of the Biomed X Research Seminar of ZJE was successfully held in Room 2A-203, ZJE Building. Invited by Dr. Yu Hua from the CBS, Prof. Jun Li from Westlake University delivered an academic report entitled “Cancer Metastasis from Chromosomal Instability”.

his talk, Prof. Jun Li introduced that chromosomal instability (CIN) is a key feature of tumor cells closely linked to tumor malignancy and poor prognosis. While past studies focused mostly on CIN‑driven genetic heterogeneity, recent research shows cytoplasmic DNA generated by CIN can activate the cGAS‑STING innate immune pathway. His team further found tumor cells can remodel this pathway in multiple ways, shifting its effect from tumor‑suppressing to tumor‑promoting. These findings help explain the molecular mechanism of CIN‑fueled tumor progression and offer theoretical support for developing new STING‑targeted cancer therapies.

Faculty and students engaged in active, in‑depth Q&A, reflecting open academic discussion and critical scientific thinking. Prof. Li patiently answered all questions and shared cutting‑edge insights on cancer metastasis research.

This is the 156th session of the Biomed-X Seminar series. ZJE will continue to build this academic brand and provide a high-level academic exchange platform for teachers and students.
